  • Learning Outside the Classroom

Learning outside the classroom is a central tenet of our curriculum vision at St Luke's. Children are given frequent opportunities to learn in the school grounds, local area, London and beyond. All classes go on many trips to enrich their learning.

Below are just a few of the places visited over the year:

    • The Natural History Museum
    • The British Museum
    • The Science Museum
    • The Museum of London
    • Celtic Harmony
    • The National Gallery
    • Tate Modern
    • The Museum of Docklands
    • The Barbican
    • The Royal Observatory
    • The Royal Courts of Justice
    • London Zoo

At St Luke's we place a strong emphasis on children's connection with the natural environment and all teachers have received training in supporting children's learning in natural environments. We work closely with local organisations such as the Garden Classroom and St Luke's Centre to provide a variety of outside learning experiences. We are also working to integrate the National Trust's 50 Things To Do Before You Are 11 3/4 into our curriculum.

Children in Year 5 and 6 take part in residential trips in the Autumn term. Year 5 visit Cardfields in Essex for 3 days and Y6 visit PGL Osmington Bay in Dorset for five days. These trips give children the opportunity to experience a range of fun adventurous activities, develop resilience and independence and challenge themselves.

    Clothing for Outdoor Learning

Children are expected to have suitable waterproof clothing and footwear for their outdoor learning.
