At St Luke’s, spirituality is not an extra subject — it’s at the heart of our school life.
We see spirituality as a journey of wonder, reflection, and connection that helps each child explore:
Myself – who I am (hands on heart)
My relationships with others – and how I treat them (hands out to the side)
How I understand and look after this wonderful world (draw a circle with hands)
And everything beyond the everyday (reach up and draw a big circle)
These gestures remind children that spirituality is about who we are, how we relate, and how we care
Spiritual development is woven into everything we do — in the classroom, playground, and beyond.
Children experience spirituality through:
Collective Worship – daily moments of reflection, prayer, music, and story, often led by staff, clergy, or pupils.
Quiet time and reflection – opportunities to pause, think, and wonder.
Big questions – exploring life’s mysteries through RE, PSHE, P4C (Philosophy for Children), and class discussions.
Nature and creativity – through outdoor learning, art, and our “Naturehood” sessions that celebrate beauty and care for the planet.
Music and stillness – discovering peace and joy in song and silence
Our Zones of Regulation framework helps children recognise and manage their emotions — an important part of spiritual development.
By understanding how they feel and why, children become more self-aware, reflective, and empathetic — all key aspects of growing spiritually.
When pupils can name and regulate their emotions, they are better able to:
Show kindness and compassion towards others.
Reflect on how their behaviour affects those around them.
Find calm, still moments to think, pray, or wonder.
Develop resilience when facing challenges, disappointment, or loss.
In this way, emotional literacy and spirituality work hand in hand — helping children to flourish both inwardly and outwardly.
Spirituality belongs to everyone. Whether a child has a strong faith, is exploring what they believe, or holds no faith background, they are invited — never forced — to reflect and connect in ways that are meaningful for them.
We adapt worship and reflection so that every child, including those with additional needs, can take part. Our inclusive approach ensures that spirituality is accessible, sensory, and joyful for all.
Our collective worship brings the whole school together to reflect, celebrate, and grow in faith and kindness. Worship includes:
Bible stories like The Good Samaritan that inspire compassion and action.
Music, silence, and prayer to help children find peace and joy.
Opportunities for children to lead, share, and ask questions.
Through worship, children connect with themselves, others, the world, and the beyond, living out our vision of love in action.
