This week, we have been doing lots of lovely art work to celebrate Black History Month. We have been making figures inspired by Lubaina Hamid’s work and also a range of bright necklaces inspired by some African necklace designs. Here are some of us at work, as well as our finished pieces which we put up for International Evening on Thursday.
Autumn 1, week 6:
This week, the children learnt that they could make a new colour by mixing two different colours together. They painted both their hands in different colours and pressed them onto paper. After that, they rubbed their hands together to make a new colour and pressed them onto paper once again. These hand prints are now on display in the classroom and they look so lovely, feel free to pop in if you'd like to see them!
Autumn 1, week 5:
In maths this week, we learnt about different colours. The children matched the coloured teddy bears to their corresponding pictures. With adult support, they also talked about the patterns they could see and used the teddy bears to continue the patterns.
They also worked well as a team while they sorted the coloured teddy bears into groups. They learnt lots of new vocabulary (sort, group, together, find’.
Autumn 1, week 4:
The children loved playing with Geli Baff this week. They enjoyed the sensory aspect; the slimy and gooey texture of it. The children learnt how to share the measuring cups and how to take turns with the other children. We practiced saying ‘Please can I have a turn?’ And waiting patiently.
Autumn 1, week 3:
We've had such a busy week! We worked together as a team to paint a tree for our Autumn display. We've been learning lots about the season Autumn and focused specifically on Autumn trees; the colour of the leaves and why they fall on the floor.
We've also read the story 'Handa's Surprise' and talked about the different fruits in the story. During circle time, we each tasted the 7 fruits; guava, pineapple, orange, banana, mango, avocado and passion fruit. We talked about how the fruit tasted and which ones we liked the 'most and the 'least'.
Autumn 1, week 2:
This term, our topic is 'Food and Festivals'. Using freshly cut oranges and lemons and water, the children made ‘fruit juice’. There was lots of communication between the children, they took turns using the measuring cups and utensils. They talked about the smell of the fruit and how delicious it was. They had such a lovely time walking around the playground and selling their juice :).
Autumn 1, week 1:
We have had an amazing start to this academic year!
Welcome all parents and children to St Luke’s school and community!
We have established classroom rules and routines, explored our classroom and resources and got to learn new things about each other.
Well done children !
